COMMUNITY SERVICES | Working with Scarborough residents to build strong and healthy communities

Ukrainian Newcomer Program

In response to IRCC's mandate to support the resettlment of Ukrainians on CUAT visa arriving as Temporary Residents in Canada,  ACSA has quickly pivoted and open up its settlement services to these newcomers to access information about housing, income support, lanugage programs, employment, healthcare, mental health services, skills training, community connections, etc. To date, ACSA has served over 500 Ukrainians, connecting them to various community resources and guiding them in their settlement journey.  ACSA hired Ukrainian-speaking Settlement Counselors to provide a culturally competent, trauma informed settlement support for the newly arrived Ukrainian newcomers.

Skills Training, Entrepreneurship and Employment Support

The Newcomers' Centre provides opportunities for Ukrainian newcomers to join various skills training opportunities to help them acquire Canadian credentials which could expedite their labour market integration.  Some of the skills training provided by ACSA Newcomers' Centre include Food Handling Certification, Wilton Cake Decoration Certification, How to Set Up a Small Business, Basic Server Training, First Aid Training, etc. We leverage ACSA's other programs to provide for access to a more extensive menu of skills training to Ukrainian newcomers.  Some other trainings that Ukrainian newcomers can access include Forklift Training, Security Guard Training, Esthetics Course, etc.
