Drop-in and Street Outreach Relief Workers

Casual Contract

Pay Rate: $17 per hour

 

ACSA is a nonprofit, multi service agency at the heart of Agincourt addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities. 

 

The Street Outreach project is a van based outreach program that connects with individuals who are experiencing street homelessness in Scarborough and North York to secure housing and make appropriate referrals as required.

 

The Drop-in Centre program operates at two locations - ACSA Scarborough Drop-In North (4155 Sheppard Ave E) and ACSA Scarborough Drop-In South (202 Markham Rd) - five days a week including weekend providing hot lunches, basic needs, support and referrals. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and informal counselling
  • Provide referrals and information
  • Facilitate drop-in programs and food services
  • Maintain a clean and safe program space
  • Provide conflict prevention and resolution supports
  • Provide direction and support to drop-in volunteers
  • Distribute Harm Reduction supplies and education materials
  • In the Outreach van, actively locate, and then engage individuals living outdoors,
  • Assist homeless clients to secure housing and other supportive services (housing searches identification, social assistance, etc)
  • Work collaboratively with all ACSA staff and other social service agencies to provide an holistic approach to client needs
  • Ensure accurate daily documentation in logs and data tools
  • Other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience working with people who are homeless, and marginalized individuals
  • Excellent crisis management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally under pressure
  • Experience engaging clients, providing support, referrals and ongoing support
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Valid Ontario G-class driver’s license and clean drivers abstract
  • Toronto Drop-in Network Foundation Series Certificate is considered an asset
  • A second language is considered an asset
  •  Willingness and ability to be put on registration for agency vehicle and drive vehicle during shifts
  • CPI, First Aid and CPR certification
  • Valid Police Records Check.
